Columba Bush a member of Regnum Christi? Legion of Christ & Regnum Christi Recruiting the Heavies?

LEGION OF CHRIST AND REGNUM CHRISTI RECRUITING THE HEAVIES?

A hurried investigation with the help of Google brought up the following info for a friend seeking info re Jeb Bush's wife and whether the LC/RC has other powerful Catholics or Conservatives in its posse...

Philomena,

·     you seem to have found out that Columba Bush is a member of the Regnum Christi Catholic Organization spawned by disgraced founder, Fr. Marcial Maciel, Legionary of Christ.
·         Ever since the 2009 revelations about the scandalous life of the Founder, MM, the Legion of Christ has tried to separate itself from him. The Regnum Christi Lay Movement has been trying to separate itself from the Legion of Christi. Nevertheless, the RC is still dependent on the LC as the priests are still the superiors and the spiritual directors of the RC consecrated lay people, mostly female.
·         You know that Vows of Silence film was done by Jason Berry and that as an investigative reporter he is number one regarding LC/RC; he has been studying it for years since getting involved around the mid 90s… and his book, Vows of Silence:
is groundbreaking; he has been studying the phenomenon since and writes for National Catholic Reporter.
·
·         If you want to annoy the LC/RC you might say that they are the Catholic Scientologists, because of the parallels you are discovering. They also go after big fish as you say: people who are powerful with money (The Domino’es Pizza man, Tom Monaghan) and political influence, some Catholic intellectuals (Mary Ann Glendon ? who got a post in the Vatican….
·         Jeff Bush gave the keynote address at one of the LC.RC Family Conferences a few years back;

“The Legion of Christ is a Satanical Cult” –fireside chat

“The Legion of Christ is a Satanical Cult” –fireside chat

Two former Legionaries, Mutt and Jeff, beg to differ

Background: Jeff had asked for prayers on a Legion-friendly blog for the repose of the soul of his father. Mutt heard that Jeff’s father had once stated that the Legion of Christ was a Satanical Cult and mentioned this on the blog. Jeff took exception and entered Mutt’s Facebook chat to straighten Mutt out and the chat ensued:

Jeff to Mutt:
I understand your feelings about the Legion, but please respect my wishes, which were to ask for prayers for my father and my family. Please don't use this request as an excuse to wage a polemic of your own, especially as you seemed not to have any idea who I am. If you wish to join us in prayer, you are more than welcome! But please don't invade a moment of mourning with an agenda of your own.

Mutt to Jeff:

I thought I had some idea of who your father was and how HE felt about the Legion; but I could be mistaken

Jeff to Mutt:

Would that really make it OK? You are mistaken if you think you can summarize his thoughts with that comment, but even if you were not, the comment is beyond offensive and totally out of bounds. I am honestly quite surprised as I have always held you in high esteem as a person who was seeking reconciliation and healing, but I can't see that in your post, nor in your response above, in lieu of which a simple apology would have sufficed. I can't even believe there is a need to say these things. What you have done is the equivalent of crashing the receiving line at a funeral of someone you don't know, in the worst possible way. I must ask you to delete your comments. I would like to save these memories, but you are entering the equivalent of graffiti in a funeral home register and ruining it for future reflection. Not everything that takes place in the world is about the wounds that you or anyone else has suffered at the hands of Maciel, though I can well understand that they may be painful.

Mutt to Jeff:

That is quite a mouthful. I know I am a very bad boy but I have done my bit in deleting my comments from the blog. I understand that my timing/place was wrong. It just happened that I was speaking with a very good priest today and he mentioned your father's passing and his quote (“The Legion of Christ is a Satanical Cult”); I couldn’t help myself and interrupted your mourning process –and your digestion, too. So, not good timing.

Just a little clarification re the wounds. It’s not all about Fr. Maciel. It’s the Legion/Regnum Christi. Those of us who take exception to the LC/RC are always supposed to have some kind of a chip on our shoulders while you, the supporters, the balanced, the healed and unscathed are fine, rational and in a better place.

I assume that true to the spirit of the Legion you will forgive and pray for poor, unfortunate, resentful, unholy and disgruntled me…I know I need it. And I know that because of your Charism of Charity you will forgive me for publishing our chat anonymously.

I, for my part, hope and pray that you, the Legion and the Regnum Christi will not sue my ass/soul through your ruthless and expensive lawyers.

WHERE DO ALL THE LEGION OF CHRIST PEDOPHILES GO?
Part 2

We were saying that Legion Founder, Marcial Maciel, an impulsive and voracious pedophile would have
  • Abused around a hundred of his seminarians; maybe more. Remember that most victims of pedophilia keep silent, and that is partially why it is so difficult to get statistics.
  • ·        There are no hard facts regarding how many victims become perpetrators. Prudentially, and based on my readings of the psychological literature, shall we say 10% of victims become perpetrators. So now we have a very conservative calculation that Maciel would have spawned 10 or more sexually abusing religious/priests.
  • ·        The bad news is that Maciel created an environment of silence, deceit and control that breeds sexual abuse.
  • ·        The other piece of bad news is that during the foundation period Maciel was not the only predator who abused the prospective seminarians in the Apostolic Schools (junior seminaries) where boys were groomed from as early as 10 years old to become priests (or sexual abuse victims). There is historical proof that one of Fr. Maciel’s earliest collaborators in Tlalpam, Mexico, Fr. Luis Ferreira, was an active abuser. Ferreira and Maciel attempted to blackmail each other into silence! (See published documents in La Voluntad de No Saber, “Not wanting to know”, only in Spanish:
http://www.amazon.com/La-Voluntad-De-No-Saber/dp/6073109644
  •  The other bad news is that very often Maciel, in order to reward and control his victims often made them superiors. With their authority/power over the subjects their inclination could be more easily satisfied.
  •   There needs to be further study regarding “intergenerational pedophilia” in the Legion of Christ; Maciel abuses Guillermo Izquierdo (not to be confused with his twin brother, Gustavo Izquierdo), who become novice master, and abuses novices in Ireland and possibly the USA; one of Izquierdo’s Irish victims becomes a superior and abuses a novice under his care, etc. etc.
We will need to discuss other issues including Fr. Maciel's special charism and how the Legion has dealt with sexually abusing members, what it does, where it sends them, etc.

1- WHERE DO ALL THE LEGION OF CHRIST PEDOPHILES GO?

It begins with a "C"

Now Fr. Maciel abused about one hundred of his seminarians. Could have been less but probably more. He was at it from the age of 21 -when he founded the Legion, abusing De la Isla 10-11 year old in the first ESCUELA APOSTOLICA, in Mexico City. Maciel carried on abusing seminarians, Mexicans, Spanish such as Fernandez Amenabar and Irish such as Michael Caheny. Don't have info on Americans. Would not be unusual as Maciel was insatiable and sought variety

Will continue later -after I throw up...
