Separating Legion from the founder, Fr. Maciel

Neo Conservative [?] George Weigel weighs in on how to save the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi Movement.

  1. Honestly, what the hell does he know about the Legion, he or Grisez?

    Ok, you met with Fr Richard Gill regularly for dinner, or you spoke to seminarians a couple of times, great. You're a leading intellectual light, you know theology, or history, or whatever.

    But for you to give a prescription about an organization you know only what you've been let to know, is just hubris.

    "Their words reconfirm what those of us who have benefitted from the friendship of Legionary priests have known for years—there is great good here, as there is among the faithful members of Regnum Christi.

    The question now is, how shall that good be saved?"

    It boggles my mind how much pride and, frankly, obtuseness there is in this statement. 'Friendship' with a Legionary?? lol.

    And as for the first real act, well, I was fooled again, I just can't believe it. They are just going to pretend it didn't happen. It will be interesting to see the American LC's behavior over time.

  2. They can all be Legion spin doctors.

    I agree,
    Weigel knows as much about the Legion and Regnum as Neuhaus did;
    what I know is that the Legion/Regnum posed as Conservative Catholics and were embraced by the Neo-Conservatives

    Berg, Gill, Morris, and Williams are spind doctors in my book until they take a stand.
