Prominent Legionary accused of Pedophilia in Chile
The best known Legionary priest in Chile, Fr. John O'Reilly, has been under the cloud of accusation for several months. He considers himself a "Dead Man Walking" as described in a series of interviews he recently gave to "El Clinic" in Chile.
I am praying for Fr. John, because in this case, despite my option for the victims, as a former brother of mine in religion and not having any first hand information or testimonies I will consider him innocent until proven guilty. Because of the seriousness of the charge Fr.O'Reilly is ostracized and isolated, maybe even abandoned by the Legionaries he represented for decades. Fr. O'Reilly has been the face and engine behind the Legion's expansion since he arrived there in 1980.
There is now a very long interview with him in the public domain, in Spanish, and as I translate it I will make it available on another blog:

Happy Legionary with Parents
Can't do the humbug today, not after seeing the Joy of Andrew Dalton and parents. The parents see many things wrong with the LC/RC but they have not wanted to interfere with their son's decision; au contraire, they have supported him will still having misgivings about the Legion.
A balancing act that only loving parents know how to do!
Bon Natale,
Feliz Navidad,
Happy Christmas

Boston priest tapped for Vatican role
BOSTON (MA)
Boston Catholic Insider
Boston priest, Fr. Robert Oliver, has been tapped by Pope Benedict XVI to be Promoter of Justice for the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith. You can read the Boston diocesan press release here. The position is akin to a prosecutor in the American legal system. The CDF is charged with protecting Catholic doctrine, but also handles all serious crimes against the church, including the sexual abuse of children, desecration of the Eucharist, violation of the seal of confession, heresy and schism. He will be essentially the Vatican’s chief prosecutor of sex crimes against minors.
Oliver has served as judge and promoter of justice in the archdiocesan tribunal, and he has also advised Cardinal O’Malley on issues including pastoral planning. He was a longtime professor of theology and canon law at St. John’s Seminary. This past year he served as a visiting professor of canon law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He is a very smart orthodox priest. With his departure from the Pastoral Center, Bishop-elect Deeley and Cardinal O’Malley lose a trustworthy adviser with a lot of horsepower who worked quietly behind the scenes to make critical things happen.

Cardinal De Paolis Continues to Ordain Fr. Maciel's Immature Little Lead Soldiers
[with one exception!*]
Will Conservative Catholics be deceived once more by External Appearances, including the facade of Doctrinal Orthodoxy, and continue to support an order that produces such seriously flawed priests?
Cardinal de Paolis and Legion Superiors keep denying the serious problems in their training system and continue to produce psychologically immature young priests. The Catholic Hierarchy is happy with the numbers but neglects the quality, despite the appearances - and the Legion is all about appearances and deceit,
appearances that deceive
"Look at the king's magic suit of clothes!" - and what wonderful clothes he is wearing today, those immaculately cut golden chasubles...those haircuts and hairstyle all combed the same, the cuff-links, the shining shoes, those "shining morning faces" reflecting innocence, chastity, and "holiness" that old ladies love to see in their priests...
"The system", created by Pedophile and Psychopath Founder, Fr. Marcial Maciel, continues to churn out the numbers
Read De Paolis excuse for not seriously examining and reforming the order
And lest I become another 'disgruntled old man' I must say that whatever goodness, honesty, and virtue these young men possess they got it from their families. In the Legion they are taught about the superiority of the Legion, the importance of appearances, the obsessive observation of minute rules that substitute for a personally formed conscience, and blind obedience to unscrupulous superiors who will employ any means to reach their goals.
------
* I must make an exception for Andrew, the son of Mary and Dana Dalton; with those parents he must be one of the good guys.
And I suppose the same could be said about each of the other individuals ordained. Chesterton said, tongue in cheek, "Generalizations are odious". So, I stand corrected. As products of the system they are all flawed. As children of their parents, they are all worthy of admiration and respect.

Undue Influence of Female Religous Leader in Lisieux
From Parish Match article below the blogger notes one testimony which illustrates the entrapment of someone in a High Demand/Control Group. I translate:
"I lost everything, she stole everything from me. I lost my freedom, my soul. She stole my word, my material goods, she stole my family because she cut the lines with them, with my friends. I have nothing personal left, she cut me off from the world, I had no information about the world around me. When I was in I did not even know who was president of our country."
«J’ai tout perdu, elle m’a tout volé. J’ai perdu ma liberté, mon âme. Elle m’a volé ma parole, mes biens matériels, elle m’a volé ma famille puisqu’elle m’a fait couper les liens, avec mes amis. Je me suis retrouvée sans plus personne, elle m’a coupée du monde, je n’avais même plus d’informations du monde qui était autour de nous. Moi à l’époque, je ne savais même pas qui était le président de la République.»
the story continues on a chilling note:
Nevetheless, this morning the accused still seems to exercise a certain influence over the alleged victims because only half of the 22 people identified carried through with the legal process. "Even after being under court control and having recovered her freedom, [...]" stated the victims' lawyer, "she continues with her activities."

Top Legionary of Christ, Fr. John O'Reilly, accused of Sexual Abuse in Chile
This news first appeared in the Chilean media in July 2012, but it may have escaped the attention of English speakers
the blogger continues to research this issue. In September 2012 Fr. O'Reilly's lawyer was questioning the integrity of the psychologist who did the assessment of the 6 year old victim and accusing her to belong to a religious sect which has a vested interest in discrediting the Legion of Christ, Fr. Maciel and Fr. O'Reilly
IT MUST BE STATED THAT FATHER HAS NOT BEEN FOUND GUILTY AS FAR AS BLOGGER'S RESEARCH CAN ASCERTAIN.
One Chilean article is titled: "Legionary who compared Maciel to Jesus accused of pedophilia"
Another article, July 25, states that Lawyer Mario Schilling will present the case against Fr. O'Reilly
Article below from another source Translation by Google with a few touches
Archbishop Ricardo Ezzati made the request to the Legionaries of Christ to clarify the case.
The archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Ricardo Ezzati, requested the opening of a canonical investigation into allegations of child abuse against the priest John O'Reilly. This was confirmed in statements made tonight. "I have asked the ather provincial of the Legionaries, according to what is stated in the official documents of the Church, to open a canonical investigation, which he did today, "said Archbishop Ezzati. Asked about the number of complaints involving religious, Archbishop Santiago acknowledged that "there are so many, and even one would be very serious. Yet the Church is much more than that," he said. canonical research adds to the investigations initiated by the justice regarding the accusations raised against Father O'Reilly, who was suspended from his duties by the College Summit. Complaints refer to alleged abuse of a girl of six years, which were made known to the school by the family of the little student. The priest , a member of the Legionaries of Christ, pleaded not guilty and considered that the claims against him are " a terrible mistake ". During this evening, the school board Summits held an information meeting with representatives of the establishment to discuss the case.

Handling of Damages for Sexual Abuse Victims by The Legion of Christ
Jimmy Savile was revealed to have been a predatory pedophile with numerous victims
MOST VICTIMS GET VERY LITTLE, IF ANY, INDEMINIZATION. SIX FIGURES ARE OUT OF THE QUESTION.
Since the latest Maciel revelations about his double life and fathering children outside of celibacy and wedlock forced the Legion and the Vatican to admit that he had also Sexually Abused Seminarians and other people, the Apostolic Delegate set up a Commission to Indemnify Victims.
1] This Commission was not independent
And in the practice is composed of Legionaries
who have the last say.
Until recently, Superior General, Alvaro Corcuera [a close collaborator of the abuser, Fr. Maciel], had the last word as to who got how much.
2] the Commission would only deal with abuses committed by Fr. Marcial Maciel and not abuses attributed to other Legionaries such as Frs. Guillermo Izquierdo, Salvador Maciel, etc. which have appeared in www.regainnetwork.org testimonies or other parts of the Internet
3] the commission was set up in such as way that those who had begun legal proceedings were excluded. This means that the almost all the original accusers, Barba, Jurado, etc. in Mexico -who for their part refused to go through the humilating process, got nothing from the Legion.
4] after long, arduous and humiliating deliberations the Legion gave some money to a few people.
5] with rare -if any- exceptions the amounts were minimal. Legion supporters may think victims were well taken care of. LIES. the amounts, mentioned by Legion and by DePaolis, that Legion considers are something in the area of 20, 30, or 40 thosand dollars.
---the end of the article below, relating to the victims of Jimmy Savile, shows how much his victims hope to get if their case is successful
LONDON (Reuters) - The people who were sexually abused in their youth by one of the BBC's most celebrated TV stars will sue the state-funded broadcaster and Jimmy Savile's estate, a lawyer representing some of the victims said on Thursday.
The abuse claims against the late Savile, described by police as one of Britain's most prolific sex offenders, have sullied the reputation of the BBC and thrown the jobs of its current and former boss into doubt.
Hundreds of victims have come forward in the scandal which casts Savile, a cigar-chomping DJ turned television star feted by royalty and politicians, as a pedophile who raped or groped children on BBC property.
"Certainly one is going to sue the BBC and all are going to be suing the estate," Alan Collins, a lawyer representing 12 Savile victims, told Reuters by telephone.
"If Savile did things in his capacity as a BBC employee then the employer, the BBC, is potentially liable," said Collins, though he said the main objective for most victims was to obtain recognition of the abuse.
Savile died last year at the age of 84.
Legal action against the BBC could would further undermine the position of Director General George Entwistle, who has been lampooned by the local media as "baffled, bumbling and clueless" for his perceived poor handling of the worst crisis in the corporation's 90-year history.
Questions have also been raised about Entwistle's predecessor, Mark Thompson, who is set to take over at the New York Times Co.
Prime Minister David Cameron has said the sex abuse allegations leave the BBC and other institutions with serious questions that they must answer.
Lawyers representing some of the male and female victims, some of whom were as young as eight when the abuse occurred, said their clients had indicated an organized pedophile ring involving other celebrities had existed at the BBC during the height of Savile's fame in the 1970s and 80s.
A spokeswoman for the BBC declined immediate comment.
In a sign of preparation for claims, the Financial Times reported that Savile's 4.3 million pound ($6.93 million) estate has been frozen in response to the allegations.
Such abuse claims often secure relatively small amounts of compensation, said Collins, who specializes in personal injury cases.
"Damages for these sorts of cases are notoriously low," he said, quoting average figures for his own cases of around 30,000 to 35,000 pounds. "People would be quite shocked about how low damages are in the UK for this sort of thing."
